RESIDENTIAL INFORMATION
A loss of any kind is at the very least inconvenient; often it’s a disruptive and exhausting experience. Unresponsive insurance companies, endless hours of legwork and follow up, contractors that don’t turn up or finish the job. It can be a really unpleasant experience and unless you’ve gone through it before, the pitfalls are numerous. Here is how it works with us…
In most cases, fires, floods and storm damage are automatically covered by insurance. The important first step is to secure your home or structure from further damage, as the policyholder that is your primary responsibility regardless of your policy’s coverage. Contacting a responsive, experienced contractor like Van Rooy Restoration to come out anytime, day or night, to perform the necessary damage control (temporary services) is the best way to ensure that your structure is protected. You’ll want to contact your insurance company immediately as well to file a claim and start the process that will cover the costs of your loss.
When we come out to perform temporary services our primary goal is to prevent further damage to the structure and its contents, either by the loss itself, the elements, theft or any other threat. We have the resources to manage all aspects of the loss, from securing the structure, to arranging cleaning and storage of clothing and furniture, to drying and storing photos, documents or any item of value that has been affected by the loss. We can provide temporary power, heat, lighting and labor to pack contents and move them to a safe location; we even arrange for off site storage and transportation to get it there. All of these services are normally covered by insurance. Depending on the type of loss and coverage limitations, we can tailor our services to meet your needs without exceeding coverage.
Once the structure and its contents are secure we’ll assess the damage and develop an estimate for repairs to submit to you and the insurance adjuster. It’s completely up to you what contractor you choose and bids are an excellent way to determine who you want to use, but keep in mind that the lowest bid may not be the best bid. In the case of repairs covered by insurance, you want to make sure that your contractor has thoroughly estimated the repairs; leaving no stone unturned when it comes to water damage mitigation or odor control. Van Rooy Restoration’s experienced estimators and technicians know where to look and what to look for when assessing any kind of loss. Our goal is to submit a comprehensive scope from the start. Occasionally, our estimate for repairs will differ from that of the adjuster’s, in these cases we’ll work with him or her to overcome any discrepancies and settle on an approved scope of work.
Once the scope is approved, repairs will begin, but we’ve already begun laying the groundwork to expedite the work. We have an experienced team of project managers who are experts at coordinating the process and keeping the project on schedule.
Whether we’ve been on site from the beginning or coming in after temporary repairs have been completed, we’re happy to provide an estimate that will ensure your property is returned to pre-loss condition. We’ve handled hundreds of losses, large and small.
